My job here in Scotland is not just a Residence Life Cordinator, but I am also a Warden in Lee House. I know sounds tough right. Basically I am required me to host fun social events for the residents of my building. Tonight was a special night for my house because our Christmas House Ball took place in one of our large venues on campus called South Hall. In order to paint a picture of what our house ball was like envision a mix between a Christmas party and a High School Prom. The guys from my house all got the idea to make it a gentleman's evening and sported fake mustache's to the champagne reception.
My Resident Assistant Denes and me
The venue was only a short walk from my building, and it was very lovely with all of the snow. We even had a Scottish bag piper escort us down the way into venue. The hall was decorated with a beautiful Christmas tree and many of my students were dressed in traditional Scottish attire.
The meal was amazing and my favorite part was a white truffle soup that was our starter. It was delish! We also had Christmas Crackers on the table, so many students were sporting crowns that they got as prizes from the crackers.
Our dessert was a chocolate mouse with raspberries and amaretto. Amazing!
The great thing about our ball was that we collaborated with another house on campus, Baird House. Below is my friend Carla- the Warden of Baird and to her right is her RA Sarah. Both ladies were such a help in planning the event. I am not sure what I would have done without them!
Once the dinner was cleared the fun began. We had a traditional Scottish Ceilidh dance. Ceilidh dances have traditional Scottish music and folk dancing. Picture the scene form the movie Titanic when they are dancing to folk music on one of the lower decks. Check out the video below for a glimpse into our dance.
My residents had such spirit at the Ball. It's times like these I can't believe I get paid to do this job! Until next time, I will see you on the internet!
