Flashback Friday: Munich and the World Cup

I have been so busy since getting back from my Christmas Holiday, but I am back in the swing of things in Edinburgh. The weather seems to be improving slightly, and today we even are back in the 50's! I must admit I am really excited for some upcoming trips to warm places, especially with all of the snow we have been experiencing the winter. In April my mom and friend Carla are coming over from the States to celebrate my birthday- the big 27- and we are heading to Spain and Portugal! Then in May my friend Ortie will be coming over to celebrate her big 27, and we are travelling to Morocco for a 4 day getaway. You may remember from my African Adventure that I absolutely loved visiting Africa. I am really excited to go back in May and check out a totally different part of the continent.

Thinking of all the upcoming warm weather trips I have planned made me think back to my summer abroad in Europe back in 2006. It was so hot that summer, and one weekend I travelled from Vienna to Munich for the World Cup. I met up with three friends of mine, Luis, Flavia, and Chris- all friends who are originals from Brazil but live in Paris.

I have to first start out with saying I absolutely love Germany. I had visited before with my mom, aunt, and uncle when I was 13 and absolutely fell in love with the Alps, food, and people. From the minute I arrived in Munich I was surrounded by football fans, and the weekend I was in town Brazil and Australia were playing. I jumped on the Brazil bandwagon since I was travelling with Brazilians and must admit felt welcomed by all of the fans I met.
The weekend consisted of cheering for Brazil....

 Drinking beer....

Walking around the city to check out the sites....

More beer drinking....

Watching hot Brazilian boys practice Capoeira dancing...

oh did I forget to mention the beer...

and checking out some beer gardens.

The city was packed with people- even the subways were crammed with fans. Our group went via subway to the Olympic Stadium Park to watch the match, and when we arrived we were in a sea of people.

We even got on the big screen!

Of course I had to sport some Brazillian wear, even if I was only an honorary fan for the game!

Finally we made it to the hofbraeuhaus, one of the most famous beer houses in Germany. We decided to end the weekend in true German fashion with you guessed it, more beer! I am typically not a beer drinker, but definitely got my fill of German beer that weekend. Besides, when in Germany what else would you drink?

All this talk about Germany and my trip there makes me think I need to look into going back sometime soon! Now I am thirsty; until next time I will see you on the internet.
