Obrigado Portugal

Well, sadly it's over (tear). My trip to Portugal came to an end late last night and after a 3 1/2 hour flight I was back in the Burgh. Although I am happy to be home because in next week one of my best friends from the States is coming to visit, I am sad that my amazing birthday adventure is over. All I can say is Obrigado Portugal, which means Thank you! Your beaches, your food, your culture, I love love loved it all! Of all the countries I have visited, I think Portugal has moved into my top 3 of favourite places I have ever traveled to. Being able to spend my birthday with MMT and Carla was such a great gift, and Portugal was truly Paradise. The last few days of my trip had some major highlights of the entire vacation, and we made sure we went out with a bang!

On Sunday we planned on visiting Jerónimos Monastery. I think this was one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen.  The weather for our last day in Lisbon was in the mid 80's and couldn't have been more perfect!

Since it was Sunday, there was a mass going on in the church, so I couldn't get in to take more pictures. But as you can see, just from the entrance it was extravagant.

Wandering further into the monastery we came across this courtyard, the lighting was amazing and then I was presently surprised to find.....

A Portuguese guitar band! They were awesome and I was loving the fact that there were even old grandma's in the band. I hope I can rock like they did into my more seasoned years.

After jamming out to the band for a while I wandered around the courtyard taking pictures with my new camera. I love how easy it is to use and it takes great pictures! I just wish I had converted to a more high-tech camera earlier!

And then I let MMT take the camera so I could enjoy more music and sun. Did I mention I love Portugal!

After our visit to the monastery it was time to relax and catch some rays. After all, it's not a real vacation unless you come back with a tan right!?

Tanning leads to hunger, so off for more calamari and sangria in down town Lisbon. Carla was definitely enjoying the sun too!

After lunch we decided to do more wandering of the city of Lisbon. There are so many great artists in the city. Next time I am in Lisbon I am bringing a larger suit case to bring home some of this great artwork!

How cool are these trolley cars! With hills like this city has, these trolleys come in handy.

If you ride the 28 streetcar to the top of the hill you get one amazing view. Don't you just love Lisbon!

Another reason I loved Lisbon were the beautiful statues that were randomly placed in the around the city. This Poseidon statue was one of my favourites with the blooming calla lilies (Zantedeschia aethiopica)

At this point of the day I realized I was getting a little burned and starting to look a bit like a crab. So, in honour a crazy German joker I know it was time rock out the the crab dance.

I was really sad to leave Lisbon on Monday, but I knew for my last day in Portugal I wanted to spend it at my favourite place, soaking up sun rays on the beach. The Algarve beaches are the most beautiful I have ever seen. I was so sad to see the sun go down on Monday night, because I knew that it was time to head back to the Burgh.

My trip to Portugal was better than I ever anticipated. I will definitely be back one day! All I can say is, Obrigado Portugal!

Until next time, I will see you on the internet.
