I have to start this blog post by saying that I don' t think I can fully articulate how amazing today was, but I am going to try my best to convey what an fantastic day I had in Portugal. Today I turned 27, and let me just tell you I couldn't have dreamed up a better day. This morning when I woke up, I had emails and messages sending me happy birthday wishes from friends across the world, and the messages kept pouring in throughout the day. I heard from friends in Germany, France, UK, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Ireland, and the USA! Thank everyone for sending me birthday love, it truly made my day special.
When I woke up this morning it was in the 80's and the sun was out! After applying sunscreen (first time this season) Carla, MMT and I headed out for a proper breakfast. A cappuccino and fresh pastry- delish!
Nothing like a cup of cappuccino to start off the day! I normally don't drink caffeine so I was wired and ready to take on the day, and what a day it was!
After eating the most important meal of the day, we went to check out a bone church in Faro. I went to my first bone church when I was visiting my friend Catherine in Prague, so when I heard there was one in Faro I had to check it out.
Ok- so yes, bone churches are a little weird. But I just had to check it out. We have nothing like this in the US.
And of course- I had to lighten the mood.
After the bone church we hoped in Filipe and headed out to explore the Algarve beaches. We visited a handful today (7 to be exact) and the views got better and better.
Once at the beach it was time for a birthday photo shoot...
with many jumping attempts...
Love when you get the shot just right, although it was a struggle.
and then it was time for climbing on rocks.
The views from the top were fab!
After playing on natures jungle gym it was off to explore more of the beaches
Carla and MMT enjoyed themselves too!
and of course I was ready to strike a pose!
I was a happy girl with my feet in the sand!
Breathtaking, the photos speak for themselves
onto more beaches.....
And of course I had to enjoy the water
I enjoyed a long walk on beach #4 in the afternoon.
Around 3pm we decided to break for lunch. After all we had to get my daily dose of fruits and vegetables. But mostly fruits, in a nice pitcher of Sangria!
After lunch it was back to explore more of the coastline and beaches
We drove and drove and drove until the sun was starting to set. Then we made it to the western most point of Portugal. The views were more amazing than words can describe!
And as the sun set into the Atlantic ocean I thought to myself, this is a birthday I will never forget. Thanks Portugal for making it so memorable!
Tomorrow morning we are headed to Spain. Let the good times roll.
Until Next time, I will see you on the internet.
